Stage 10
Richard Virenque has lost none of his popularity since his dark days of doping. And, as he has paid his dues to society and passed all controls since, we must admire the way he won the 10th stage of the Tour through the Massif Centrale.
He has a lot of courage -- always has -- and to ride like he did for over 200 kilometers up front, took a lot of special determination.
No worries for Lance and the rest of the leaders. They will wait -- possibly until Saturday and the hard road to Plateau de Beille -- before making a move.
A special word tonight for Tyler Hamilton, whose dog Tugboat has contracted cancer and has had to be put down. I can understand how he feels and we all feel for him. Dogs, somehow become a part of you, and the loss will be felt. I met Tugboat last year when
Tyler
had broken his collarbone. That dog stayed the night with him and knew not to jump on him in bed, as something was wrong. They do know, you know.
