Stage 17
Lance Armstrong rolls on and now he cannot stop winning the stages. It was another special delivery by the Postie and, as far as I can see, this is the first time anyone has won three back-to-back stages in the mountains since Gino Bartali in 1948.
After Lance, comes Floyd Landis, another rider who is blossoming as the Tour goes on. It was string man Jose Azevedo in the Pyrenees, now it is Floyd in the
Alps
.
Papers in
France
are reporting Floyd as about to leave USP, we will see. Others have done it, and sometimes it is necessary to improve your own position in the sport.
One competition was decided today -- victory in the King of the Mountains for Richard Virenque for a record-breaking seventh time. One hundred and forty-seven continue to
Paris
, and that was the finishing peloton last year. I think there will be fewer this time.
