Prologue

Bombs away. The first salvo aimed at the Team Mobile ships from Lance Armstrong was delivered in the Prologue. Lance wasted no time in establishing who is the hot favorite to win this bike race, taking an incredible 16 seconds of time out of Jan Ullrich in only 3.8 miles.

The damage to his other rivals, like Roberto Heras and Iban Mayo, was even more significant.

When we get to the team time trial, even more time will be taken out of those riders, presumably, considering all of the results.

Also, when you look at the effort the other US Postal riders put in the Prologue -- George Hincapie, Viatcheslav Ekimov and Floyd Landis -- all of them right up there near the top of the leader?s board -- we see that the USPS team is very well prepared. They are totally fired up about this year's Tour. There will be no complacency whatsoever. It's not Lance Armstrong's specialty in any sense of the word. This year will be no exception.

If anybody believed before the race that Lance Armstrong was not prepared, and was maybe a little bit out of form, or perhaps time had finally taken his toll, you can put those fears to rest. Lance is ready. Lance is focused. Lance is fired up, believe me. It's going to be hard to beat him.

Hats off to Cancellara, one of the silver train riders in the Fassa Bortolo juggernaut that leads out Alessandro Petacchi. Cancellara used the speed that he's acquired by taking Petacchi to the line – and some very specialized training -- to just hang on by a couple of seconds to Lance Armstrong to win a great victory.
