Stage 19

Lance Armstrong has always said that when you are the yellow jersey you have to make it a point of honor to win the final time trial stage. That proves that you are the strongest man in the race and there are no doubts.

He has done this now five times out of the six times that he has won the Tour. He was only beaten last year by the weather conditions -- it was absolutely terrible in Nantes.

Last year, he admitted that once he heard that Ullrich had crashed he knew he had won the Tour and didn't need to crash, so he cruised to the finish. In different weather conditions, I think he would have won that tt stage as well keep a one hundred percent record.

He is now on the eve of his historic sixth win at the Tour de France. All he has to do now is 100 miles more and he will be crowned the outright record holder for victories at the Tour.

Looking at his average speeds going back three or four years, they were about the same as his speed today (49 kph). This indicates that the man from Texas is not slowing down as he gets older. If he wants to, I think he can come back and win a seventh. I doubt if anyone could ever have imagined that.
